Actually thei r bill is more than capable of scrunching up worms and crustaceans all by itself. And I can assure you that they can manage quite a surprising amount of bite pressure for such a comically soft bill.

They aren’t especially nippy but they use their bill to feel things just like we use our fingers.

They are beautiful. Their fur is truly amazing - deep and soft. Their bill and their feet feel like the world’s softest and smoothest leather. They are also surprisingly strong and motivated. And yet they are quite gentle . Well, the females are.

The males are another matter. Handling them is an art as they are short tempered and very strong. If they get you with their ankle spur then the current hospital treatment (so I'm told) is sedation to the point of induced coma until the toxin and the agonising pain that goes with it dissapates.
